The Synbiotec Laboratories Research Center has expanded over time and consists of several laboratories,
including that of General Microbiology, Next Generation Sequencing, Cell Culture and Manufacturing.

General microbiology

The General Microbiology Laboratory is divided into three separate rooms:

  • The first room is used for the preparation and sterilization of all materials needed for the various microbiological activities and is equipped with all necessary instrumentation (deionizer, autoclave, Pasteur oven, biological fume hood, technical scales, centrifuges, etc.).
  • The second environment is used for the isolation, identification and characterization of new probiotic strains, the study of both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria from a morphological and biochemical point of view and the quality control of farm products. It is equipped with optical and stereomicroscopes, laminar flow hood and anaerobic hood in addition to the basic instrumentation needed for bacterial identification.
  • The third area is dedicated to the pilot production of probiotic lyophilized, microencapsulation in different matrices and freeze-drying. It is equipped with the following instrumentation: Mini Spray Dryer B-290, Encapsulator B-390, VaCo2 Erlenmeyer flask freeze-dryer, Lyovapor L-200 flask and dish freeze-dryer, Applikon fermenter.

Next Generation Sequencing

The Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Laboratory is dedicated to the new MiSeq Illumina® sequencing platform, an innovative and highly versatile technology that enables parallel sequencing of millions of DNA fragments. This enables the analysis of multiple genes simultaneously, with a higher throughput than traditional sequencing, dramatically shortening the time of genetic analysis.
The NGS laboratory is equipped with modern technologies for nucleic acid extraction, library preparation and quality control (Qubit 4.0, Bioanalyzer 2100, Real Time PCR, Thermal Cyclers, laminar flow hoods).
With the acquisition of this new platform, Synbiotec offers complete services for NGS sequencing from sample isolation to sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.

Cell Cultures

The Cell Culture Laboratory, which is located detached in the premises of the University of Camerino, is mainly concerned with probiotic adhesion assays on different cell lines, particularly HT29, HeLa and Caco2. The laboratory is equipped with CO2 incubator, refrigerator and freezer, water bath, laminar flow hood, inverted microscope, centrifuge, cryo-container with liquid Nitrogen.

Production

Synbiotec's Production Laboratory features state-of-the-art instruments and machinery, including Opercolator, Capsule Counting Machine and Blister Machine, all of which are managed through the in-house quality system that makes use of the methods provided by the strict management and traceability criteria imposed by ISO certification.
