RESCUE-Bio: From Waste to Resources
Valorization of bioactive substances to contribute to a circular economy with new applications in the food, cosmetics, and nutraceutical industries
The project aims to innovate the functional foods and cosmetics sector, focusing on individual well-being and health through the sustainable use of bioactive compounds derived from food waste and local waste. The project also involves the scale-up of innovative extraction methods and the production of extracts for the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries, designing a future in which health, nutrition, and personal care are interconnected and sustainable.

This initiative is part of Work Package 5 (WP5) of Spoke 6 at the University of Camerino, which aims to promote regional food products by incorporating nutraceutical and nutrigenomic approaches to improve consumers’ health and well-being.
The process, therefore, followed a path that began with the analysis and identification of sources of bioactive compounds and led to the formulation of products that were thoroughly studied for their physiological effects and health benefits: authentic, functional, and probiotic formulations were developed, along with cosmeceutical products designed to meet the growing demand for preventive and curative solutions integrated into daily nutrition. These offer modern consumers products that not only meet nutritional needs but also serve as tools for the prevention and treatment of various conditions, fitting into a lifestyle that combines nutrition, personal care, and physical activity.
RESCUE-Bio has undoubtedly positioned itself at the forefront of sustainable innovation, integrating the circular economy into the heart of the functional foods and cosmetics sector by using “waste” as a valuable resource for extracting active ingredients with health-promoting properties, thereby minimizing environmental impact and maximizing production efficiency.
The collaboration between PIERPAOLI S.R.L., project leader, and SYNBIOTEC S.R.L., aims to create a productive ecosystem that enhances the Marche region, promotes the circular economy, and contributes to economic recovery and regional sustainability.
